A Wall of Deception: A Prophetic Vision

In an earlier Discerning the Times, we stated that “Through the coronavirus pandemic, God is smashing idols and making space for the working of the Holy Spirit. But there is room for the devil to work too.”

This is a time where there are kairos moments (specific times when the Lord is moving through the work of the Holy Spirit to advance his kingdom) and there is also the hour of the power of darkness (times where the enemy is moving to hinder or block God’s kingdom advancement – primarily through the use of strongholds).

As intercessors, our role is to pray in what the Lord is doing in these kairos moments and to pray against the plans the enemy wants to achieve through the hour of the power of darkness.

In the last Discerning the Times the focus was on praying for revival and for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, which we believe is the kairos moment that the Holy Spirit is bringing right now.

As we continue to pray for this outpouring of the Holy Spirit, we need to be discerning and praying against the plans and schemes of the enemy that are at work to block this Holy Spirit movement.

The Holy Spirit will give us discernment and call us into the work of cooperating with Jesus in doing the work of spiritual warfare to block and hinder the enemy’s schemes.

One of the first prayer tactics in this spiritual warfare is to pierce the demonic cloaking and expose Satan’s plans to use the global coronavirus pandemic for potential evil.

A Dark Evil Wall Blocking the Truth 

I am blessed like Philip in the Bible to have two daughters who are filled with the Holy Spirit and have the gift of prophecy.  (Actually, my wife Laura has those prophetic gifts as well.)    Elizabeth, our oldest daughter, called us with the following profound image/vision that I submit to you for discernment. 

I believe that this vision may be a part of the Holy Spirit piercing the demonic cloaking so that the plans of the enemy are exposed.

Here in this short video interview with Elizabeth as she shares the prayer image, and we offer an interpretation.

I believe the prophetic vision Elizabeth received exposes the demonic powers at work in the coronavirus pandemic.  Her vision can be summarized as follows:

“I saw a vast black wall so high I could not see over it or around it.  The wall was pitch black and evil, like the wall of Mordor in JRR Tolkien’s Fellowship of the Rings.   The Lord said to me that this wall was named “deception.”  But then, as I was in this vision looking up at this vast evil wall, I suddenly saw small fissures and cracks in the wall.   And through the cracks, drops of crystal-clear bright water were seeping through.  I asked, “Lord, what are these drops of bright water?”  I felt the answer was, “This is Truth getting through! Pray that the little cracks will grow larger, and the drops will become a trickle, a spring, a stream, and a raging river washing away the wall of deception.”   

There is an evil wall of deception that is hiding what the enemy wants to do through the coronavirus pandemic. But while that wall is big and strong the water of truth is still able to penetrate the wall.

That truth when prayed into, through the Spirit’s leading, will develop cracks in the wall allowing more water of truth to come through. The drops of water become streams, and the streams become rivers, and then the wall can be washed away.

Our first prayer point is to continue to pray for the piercing of this demonic cloaking of deception around the coronavirus and to pray that truth would continue to be seen.

That truth is not just the spiritual truth which brings about the revival harvest that we have been praying for, but also the truth about the true nature of the coronavirus as well as the true nature of the government agencies responding to the virus as well as the nature of what is happening in the spiritual realm with the demonic principalities and powers.

Lord Jesus, expose the plans and purposes that are currently hidden by bringing forth your truth so that it can be clearly seen.

The Roots of Liberty

As Elizabeth prayed into the image of the evil wall, she asked the Lord, what the result was of not enough water coming through. In other words, what is the result of the lack of truth being known?

The answer the Lord gave her was that the lack of water/truth means that the roots are being destroyed. Elizabeth interpreted these to be the two roots of true human liberty.

These two deep roots are the divine revelation of God’s Law for humanity and the power of human reason.   

Ben Shapiro, in a great book entitled The Right Side of History: How Reason and Moral Purpose Made the West Great observes that these two roots are embodied in two cities–Jerusalem and Athens. Jerusalem representing revelation and Athens represents reason.

 Western civilization has grown as a result of keeping these two roots or cities in tension and balance.  The American founding documents, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the added Bill of Rights are the genius synthesis and balance of these two great roots of liberty. 

Anytime one city prevails over the other, this tension is lost. The result is a loss of liberty. With this loss of freedom comes the loss of pluralism, diversity, freedom of expression, checks and balances in government, and economic prosperity.  

For instance, the result of rationality overcoming the revelation of God and God’s moral Law is the tyranny and ruthless elimination of all who do not fit the utopian vision of communism.  

However, when revelation prevails without the balance of human reason, the result is the tyranny and horrors of Nazism and radical jihadist Islam. 

 In losing balance and going to either extreme, Satan accomplishes his plans for deceiving and enslaving humanity and blocking the advancement of the Kingdom of God.

Exposing Satan’s Plans to Destroy the Roots of Liberty 

Right now, in the Coronavirus pandemic with this “wall of deception” blocking truth, there is the opportunity for Satan to mobilize human ideologies and build demonic strongholds, based on either extreme of the Radical Left or the Radical Right.  

Satan has always used crisis, like what we are experiencing right now, to drive us in either direction.

As I see it, the greatest danger at this time is the development of Marxist ideology through the radical left. This ideology rejects the root of divine revelation.  

At the same time, there is the lurking danger through Magic and the Occult for an outbreak of irrational fanatism. Such fanatism rejects the root of human rationality.  

The role of intercession is to pray for the prevention of either of these scenarios. Instead, intercession needs to be focussed on praying that both of these roots of liberty remain healthy and well-watered.

Widen the Cracks – Pray for Truth

When Elizabeth asked the Lord how to pray, she got the image of the drops of water developing into cracks which continued to widen.

We need to pray that the cracks in the wall of deception will widen, and more truth will come through.

This prayer for the truth to prevail is the primary prayer tactic of asking the Holy Spirit to “pierce the cloaking” that is hiding Satan’s schemes.

Right now, in the coronavirus pandemic and the world’s response to it of shutting down entire economies, there is a huge potential for evil.

As intercessors, we need to pray that the plans of Satan’s may be exposed. We must also pray for Holy Spirit guidance about how to cooperate with the Lord in blocking the fulfillment of these plans.  

Three Areas to Consider

Three areas of great concern where Satan is building demonic strongholds come to mind:

1. Marxist Ideology

 The way the Chinese Communist Government apparently suppressed those who tried to warn of the virus.  Their deception contributed to the COVID-19 becoming a global pandemic with immeasurable cost in life and economic prosperity.   

 This behavior exposes the nature of Marxism and all the governments and societies that have been captivated by this evil ideology.   

At this point, this evil ideology is unrestrained and growing in China. It seems ready to take advantage of this crisis to extend its power and influence.

2. Abridgement of Liberty

In America and most other nations affected by the pandemic, extreme measures have been taken to arrest its spread with a necessary abridgement of liberty.  The real danger is those who would make such rules permanent or use the crisis to destroy our rights and freedoms.  For example through draconian laws enforcing social distancing that could result in the permanent loss of freedom. 

3. Persecution of Jews and Christians 

 During this coronavirus pandemic, there has been an increase in antisemitism. Conspiracy theories are quick to blame the Jews for the plague.

“Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a significant rise in accusations that Jews, as individuals and as a collective, are behind the spread of the virus or are directly profiting from it,” said Moshe Kantor, president of the European Jewish Congress.

Antisemitism is the “canary in the coal mine” for Satan, building demonic strongholds within a society with a hatred of God.  

Additionally, in several locations in the Muslim world, it is not just Jews but Christians who are blamed.  I heard from Nobel Samuel that in Pakistan, Christians are being denied food and medical aid.  

We need to let the Holy Spirit guide and direct us as we pray into these areas. He will give greater discernment and clarity as we wait upon him. But here are some suggestions for how to pray into this area:

• Pray for the truth to be seen so that the demonic cloaking of deception can be pierced further.
• Pray that as the truth is declared, that the cracks in the wall will widen and the wall itself be weakened.
• Pray that the truth would grow from drops to streams and from streams to rivers so that the wall of deception will be washed away.
• Pray that the Lord will give clear discernment about further plans and schemes of the demonic principalities and powers seeking to develop strongholds in Western society.
• Pray for God’s kingdom to come and his will to be done.
• Pray for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit that will bring awakening and revival.
• Pray that the false truths found in conspiracy theories would be unable to gain ground and would be abandoned and rejected.
• Pray for leaders at all levels of government to have wisdom to know how to respond appropriately to unfolding events.
• Pray that leaders would follow the Lord’s plans and not get distracted by the enemy.
• Pray that leaders would have godly counsellors like Joseph or Daniel who can guide them in their decision making.
• Continue to pray for a breakthrough in treatment options for COVID-19 as well as a vaccine for the virus.
