We are called to cooperate with the Holy Spirit in bringing deep healing of the wounds from the racial injustice inherited through slavery. I believe the Lord is calling us as spiritual warriors and intercessors to do the work of cooperating with the Holy Spirit to drive out these evil spirits, in both individuals as well as certain social movements, by the authority of Jesus Christ through prayer.
Cutting the deep demonic roots of slavery is a complex topic for many. As intercessors, we must ask for the clarity of mind and voice to cut through any cloaking so that the Holy Spirit can achieve His work bringing about God’s Kingdom here on earth.
This article will be in two parts. Part One will address some historical background exposing where and how the root of racial injustice in America began through slavery. Then we will identify, by name, the demonic forces who are seeking to continue to destroy America.
Part Two will address the work of the decedents of those enslaved as they have a responsibility in this work of healing as well. While at one time they were innocent victims, their attitudes of unforgiveness, of holding on to the resentments, and not dealing with the demonic spirits that came over from Africa, they are actually contributing to blocking the healing of this “open sore of the world.”
Finally, bringing both parts together, we must look to the future of our nation. How can we acknowledge our past, be healed from our wounds and use the lessons from those before us to enact real and lasting change? This change can come only by listening and learning from one another’s experiences, praying as a unified body of Christ and cooperating with the Holy Spirit to see His plan on earth as it is in heaven.
Part One
Cutting the Deep Demonic Roots of Inherited Slavery
First, we must turn our attention to the roots of the deep wounding that has taken place in the hearts of the African descendants who suffered the terrible injustice of slavery. We must start at the root of this sinful movement, not in the New World and the European slave trade, but going back to Africa itself. The monstrous horror of the slave trade conducted by Africans through tribal warfare was aggravated by non-African Islamic slave traders and raiders.
The foremost blight on Africa for centuries was the Islamic slave trade which was an outgrowth of Islamic culture and an overall denigration of human life as seen to this day in the teachings of Islam. This evil was later perpetuated and extended by Europeans.
We must invite the Holy Spirit to lead us to peer deeply into the heart of this darkness and work for Jesus’ healing of what the great Scottish missionary explorer David Livingstone1 called the “desolating slave trade OF CENTRAL AFRICA.” With Livingstone’s last words he wrote “All I can add in my solitude is, ‘may Heaven’s rich blessing come down, on every one, American, English or Turk, who will help to heal, this open sore of the world.’

Inherited Evil
To take part in Jesus’ healing and liberating work, we must understand the deep demonic roots of the racial injustice that has plagued us. Just as in the life of an individual there are certain traumas that take place and certain sins that are committed which may result in a person’s demonization, so there are also events that take place in the life of a community or a group of people which, if not healed and forgiven, will be open doors for evil spirits to be passed down in the community for generations.
The first example I can provide of this type of wounding to a group of people in recent history is the Rape of Nanjing 2. The Chinese people experienced brutal atrocities by the Japanese in December 1937-January 1938. In this terrible manifestation of evil, thousands of women were raped and over 300,000 Chinese men, women and children were massacred. This event still wounds the hearts of many Chinese even over 80 years later.
As I took part in moves of the Holy Spirit in China, I found that there were many individuals who had been demonized through the trauma of the Nanjing massacre. They had watched their mothers raped and tortured and their fathers beheaded. Still seven decades later the descendants of this massacre are filled with hatred of the Japanese.
HATRED ALWAYS OPENS THE DOORS FOR DEMONIC SPIRITS AND ANTICHRIST IDEOLOGIES TO TAKE ROOT IN PEOPLE’S HEARTS.
I suspect that the high-level demons of rape, pillage and murder let in through the Nanjing Massacre and many other such atrocities were transferred down to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). After helping in the liberation of China from the Japanese tyranny, the CCP defeated the American-supported nationalist driving them to Taiwan. It was then that the CCP continued to murder untold millions of their own people and impose communist tyranny on the entire nation.
The other primary example, not needing much explanation, is the extermination of the Jews by the Nazis. These events of the Holocaust 3 over 70 years ago have profoundly affected the people who survived them as well as their descendants. These beginnings of evil that took place in Nanjing and Europe took root and have now grown down affecting not just individuals but communities.

The Deep Root of American Slavery
We must now ask what events have wounded the African American community in the United States and the west, leaving open sores that have allowed evil spirits as well as demonic deception to take root. There is much in North America that no doubt opened the door to demonic spirits from slavery.
The institution of slavery itself created wounds but then after the Emancipation Proclamation4 by Abraham Lincoln in 1862 and the defeat of the Confederacy in 1865, violence and continued efforts at enslavement were perpetrated against the newly freed slaves. Nearly every location in the southern states has such events in their history.
However, the evil manifesting from slavery itself and from the sins of racism and white supremacy that followed has deeper demonic roots than these events which took place in North America. As mentioned previously, the effects of slavery go back to Africa in the ancient origins of the slave-trade itself.
THE AFRICAN SLAVE TRADE WAS AND STILL IS AN “…OPEN SORE OF THE WORLD.”
The great Scottish missionary explorer, David Livingstone who took the Gospel of Jesus Christ to Africa saw firsthand the horrors of the slave trade in Africa and he dedicated his life to defeating it. His tombstone in Westminster Abbey reads as follows:

The last line on the cover of the tomb, in which Livingstone invokes God’s blessings on everyone, “…American, English or Turk, who will help heal this open sore of the world” is what we need to focus on.
David Livingstone’s journal writings help us to grasp the horrors and devastation of the African slave trade with his term “open sore of the world.” He writes with eye-witness examples of how the African slave trade had its origins in Africa and thus the deep root of slavery begins there.

Excerpts from David Livingstone’s Own Writings
Just to give you a glimpse into this horror and depth of evil, as well as open doors to the demonic, here are just a few of the passages from Livingstone’s journals. The first is an account of their entering an area ravaged by the slave trade. (The excerpts are from the original book, Missionary Annals: The Life of David Livingstone, by Mrs. J.H. Worchester, Jr., Fleming H. Revell Company, New York, 1888 by the Woman’s Presbyterian Board of Missions of the Northwest.)
“Now as the exploring party ascended the river the desolation was heart-breaking. Corpses floated past them in such numbers that the paddle-wheels had to be cleared from them every morning. ‘Wherever we took a walk, human skeletons were seen in every direction, and it was painfully interesting to observe the different postures in which the poor wretches had breathed their last…Many had ended their misery under shady trees, other under projecting crags in the hills, while other lay in their huts with closed doors, which when opened disclosed the mouldering corpse with the poor rags around the loins, the skull fallen off the pillow, the little skeleton of the child, that had perished first, rolled up in a mat between two large skeletons. The sight of this desert, but eighteen months ago a well-peopled valley , now literally strewn with human bones, forced the conviction upon us that the destruction of human life in the middle passage [the route between the capture of the people and their transport to the coast] , however great, constitutes but a small portion of the waste, and made us feel that unless the slave-trade—that monster iniquity which has so long brooded over Africa—Is put down, lawful commerce cannot be established.” (pg. 59)
The role of the Islamic and Muslim slave raiders and traders and their terrible inhumanity to human commodity is noted throughout David Livingstone’s journals. Here is one very revealing conversation with an African Chief, Mukate.
“We had a long discussion about the slave-trade. The Arabs have told the chief that our object in capturing slaves is to get them into our own possession and make them of our own religion. The evils which we have seen, the skulls, the ruined villages, the numbers who perish on the way to the coast and on the sea, the wholesale murders committed by the Waiyau to build up Arab villages elsewhere—these things Mukate often tried to turn off with a laugh, but our remarks are safely lodged in many hearts. Next day, as we went along, our guides spontaneously delivered their substance [i.e. those captured and sold as slaves] to villages along our route… It is but little we can do; but we lodge a protest in the heart against a vile system, and time may ripen it. Their great argument is: ‘What could we do without Arab cloth?’ My answer is: ‘Do what you did before the Arabs came into the country.’ At the present rate of destruction of population. The whole country will soon be a desert.” (pg. 62)
Then there is one other note that is revealing of what the slave trade was doing to the people, many of whom were betrayed into slavery by their own people.
“The strangest disease I have seen in this country seems really to be broken-heartedness, and it attacks free men who have been captured and made slaves. Speaking with many who died from it, they ascribed their own pain to the heart, and placed the hand correctly on the spot, through many think that the organ stands high up under the breast-bone. Some slavers expressed surprise to me that they should die, seeing they had plenty to eat and no work… it seem to be really broken hearts of which they die.” (pg. 62)
Without listing for you all the horrors Livingstone accounts as he peered into the true heart of evil, let me provide one summary that Livingstone writes:
“When endeavoring to give some account of the slave-trade of East Africa, it as necessary to keep far within the truth, in order not to be thought guilty of exaggeration, but, in sober seriousness, the subject does not admit of exaggeration. To overdraw its evils is a simple impossibility. The sights I have seen, through common incidents of the traffic, are so nauseous that I always strive to drive them from memory. In the case of most disagreeable recollections I can succeed, in time, in consigning them to oblivion; but the slavery scenes come back unbidden and make me start up at night, horrified by their vividness.“ 5
If you read Livingstone’s reports starting with the terrible tragedy among the Africans themselves, then the utter inhumanity of the Muslims involvement, you will touch this deep heart of darkness. As a caution, when reading these accounts your soul may be tormented, as was Livingstone’s, with the pure evil these events involved.

Naming the Demons Brought Over from the African Slave Trade.
What I want to focus on here however is the role of the demonic. Such evil as described by Livingstone leaves open doors to evil spirits who are able to take root and if not overcome and cast out by the Gospel of Jesus Christ, are often passed down to future generations. Such after-effects of this inherited evil are what, I believe, we face as a prayer call now for the nation of America and where ever there was slavery or participation in the slave trade.
From the descriptions given by Livingstone there is a very good chance that high level ancestral demons were attached to those enslaved Africans, who after the terrible and ghastly passage on the slave ships, made it to the new world.
1.HIGH LEVEL DEMONS OF WITCHCRAFT AND THE OCCULT.
Those taken as slaves in Africa brought with them their own false gods especially from witchcraft and sorcery. It must also be noted that there is a high probability that there were also vestiges of Christian faith among the slaves brought over to the New World.
The first organized Christian Church was in Ethiopia in 54 AD, (Acts 8) six years before the gospel of Mark was written. Missionary activity may well have taken place to other parts of Africa. No doubt in their despair and helplessness, they cried out to Jesus for help.
It is very probable that the fact that there were born again Christians among those who survived the passage to the new world may account for two remarkable facts. First, the enslaved Africans, certainly while not immune from violent opposition, did not rise up against their slave masters except in a very few instances.
Second was the established fact that many African slaves accepted the Christian faith of their masters. This fact is no doubt because of the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ itself. The story of early African American Christianity proves the power of the Resurrection against oppression6.
The African slaves were able to accept the Gospel form their masters because the seeds of biblical faith had already been planted in them in Africa. This faith had enabled them to survive as born-again children of God, under the most dehumanizing of conditions.

But there were others who not knowing Christ called upon the only gods they knew. The gods were the demons behind witchcraft and voodoo. Demonic beings have been very evident in a number of locations where there were large populations of enslaved peoples from Africa. For instance, in Haiti, Voodoo is still widely practiced.
In Brazil, there are thriving cult based on demons from Africa. These occult practices have no doubt provided ethnic identity as well as spiritual power to overcome oppression 7 . However, they are open doors to a deeper enslavement by Satan.
While many of the slaves in the American Colonies accepted Christ, these ancestral demons, are gaining power as Christianity is rejected by the African American community. This is evident, in the founders of the #BlackLivesMatter 8 organization. Not only are they rejecting the Christian faith but are replacing it with the antichrist ideology of Marxism and are advocating practices of witchcraft and the occult.
2. THE ANTICHRIST SPIRIT OF ISLAM AND SLAVERY
The Antichrist Spirit of Islam opposes the Gospel of Christ and holds people in spiritual and political bondage 9 .
The racism of Islam is very deep. There is not a concept of natural rights, or a core belief that all people are made in the image of God which is the basis for the Judeo-Christian concept of equality and equal justice under the law. Instead Islam divides humanity into those who are Muslim and those who are not. While Islam is not based on race but an ideology, there is a racist component to it.
“No other religion filters perception through group identity to the extent that Islam does. Around the world Christians, Jews and other individuals are routinely brutalized merely because they are a member of a non-Muslim group, not because they have done anything to personally to deserve having their lives taken, their children maimed or their property torched. Meanwhile, other Muslims are generally indifferent to this violence and reserve their true outrage for circumstances involving Muslim victims of non-Muslim acts, however unintentional or relatively slight. So, if Muslims are a race, Islam would not only be a racist ideology, but arguably the most hateful and destructive in history 10.”

Islam is founded and rooted in slavery.
The high-high-level demonic power of slavery and bondage has dominated Islam from its founder Muhammad who was a slave owner and enslaved many 11.
Here are just a few observations from the article from The Religion of Peace explaining how Islam was dominated by a high-level demon of slavery.
“In 2003, a cleric in Saudi Arabia’s highest religious body declared, ‘Slavery is part of Islam. Slavery is part of jihad and jihad will remain as long as there is Islam. Those who argue that slavery has been abolished are ignorant, not scholars. They are merely writers. Whoever say such thing is an infidel.'”
“By contrast, Christianity was a major impetus in the abolishment of slavery. Abolition had to be imposed on the Islamic world by the European West. Given that there have never been abolitionary movements within the Islamic world, it is astonishing to see contemporary Muslims write their religion into the history of abolition. It is a lie.”
“There was no William Wilberforce or Bartoleme de las Casas in Islam. As mentioned, Muhammad, the most revered figure in the religion, practiced and approved of slavery. Even his own pulpit was built with slave labor. Caliphs since have had harems of hundreds, sometimes thousands of young girls and women brought from Christian, Hindu and African lands to serve Islam’s religious equivalent of the pope in the most demeaning fashion.”
The Consequences of Islamic Inherited Slavery
Not only has the spirit of slavery been passed down through Islam so has the antichrist spirit that opposes the Gospel of Jesus Christ. These demons are being welcomed into the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement by its founders who are not only rejecting the Gospel of Jesus Christ but are also actively promoting the antichrist ideology of Marxism.
These movements reject the Gospel of Jesus Christ and replace the Good News with ancestor-based-witchcraft and the antichrist ideology of Marxism. It is also very important to note that the Black Lives Founders are very engaged in the LGBTQ community and that the stated purpose of the Black Lives Matter organization is the disruption of the nuclear family and its replacement by the collective care of children 12.
The result from these movements will not be social justice but will actually result in political and spiritual slavery. When trapped in this type of rooted slavery there will be an even greater struggle to hear and believe the freedom offerings in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Here is a confirming word of the consequences if this anti-Christ demon of slavery is not bound and defeated by the Kingdom of God.
“The enemy is offering to America currently what appears to be pure righteous justice, but it will only lead to death. It will only lead to the lord of the flies, to Beelzebub, to Satan and his greater dominion. Satan has planned all of this (the coronavirus, martial law conditions, the attack on the church, the attack on our economy). He has planned communistic inspired hatred among races. This has all come together as a convergence of sorts to create a Marxist flashpoint in order to effect permanent lasting change. What’s being offered through the spirit of racism now is not God’s justice or righteousness. It will only give more authority to Satan here. It will only lead to a greater Marxist takeover 13 .”
One must ask, why is it that the descendants of slaves from Africa, are so vulnerable to giving up their own freedom, and individual responsibility, in short being enslaved again by the welfare state, drug lords and demagogues promoting racial hatred and division?
This is evidence of the ancestral inheritance of demonic powers who have been enslaving African descendants at the start of the slave trade. The need for demonic deliverance and deep spiritual healing is not only important to the closing of the doors of the sinful past but also to the setting free a current generation bound by the same sinfulness and same demons.
3. THE DEMON OF DEATH AND MURDER.
One other high-level demon that seems to have come over from Africa and is perpetuated today is Death and Murder. From the accounts of the slave trade by David Livingstone we see the reign of this demon called death and murder. Whose work is this? Jesus tells us!
You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks lies he is just being himself—for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
John 8:44 (TLV)
It is Satan’s work! It is the work of all those who have been deceived into following him. Today this includes those who have been deceived with the ideology of Marxism. This ideology has brought mass death on earth whenever it has achieved its goal of dominating a society. Is not this high-level demon of death, indeed Satan himself, manifesting in our cities like, Chicago where there is a high murder rate among African American men?
The cause of this slaughter is not only political and sociological or because of racial injustice but also because the expressions of the Kingdom of God have been forced out by anti-Christ ideologies that welcome the reign of Satan who brings murder and deception.

As we look back on this “…open sore of the world”, and identify the demonic plans that have been wreaking havoc on generations, we must enter into a time of prayer, repentance, and then healing. It is only through the acknowledgment of sin, turning away from it and all its evil intentions, and moving towards our Savior Jesus Christ, that we will come to know true and lasting healing.
The sins, wounds and demons inherited from slavery and bondage in all forms is complicated in the sense that there are so many unique variances of involvement for individuals and groups of people, even many generations later. What is not complicated is that the spirit of slavery, whether inherited or not, is not of God’s plan for His Kingdom and must be dealt with. We must, as a collective of intercessors, pray in this reality: to see all people, especially the American nation, set free from this deep root of bondage and healed once and for all.
In Part Two, we will learn about some prophetic insights needed for the healing from this deep root of inherited sin. We will also hear from a trusted friend and brother, Bishop Dr. Jim Logan, who shares helpful reflections on how to move forward to a time of healing and restoration.
