Stepping into the gap to pray for a breakthrough in the debates in Washington, DC about reversing the path of unsustainable national debt

Last year, I saw apocalyptic visions of the economic collapse of the United States and massive economic catastrophes befalling the United Kingdom and Europe. The result of these was chaos and death on a massive scale.

All of this results in blocking the advancement of the Kingdom of God. How could Satan accomplish such horrors? One way is through uncontrolled government spending that so exceeds revenues that there is set in motion unsustainable debt that creates the conditions of economic ruin. What follows are conditions ripe for anarchy and evil.

This is just what is happening right now in the USA and in the United Kingdom as well as in the European Union. (Canadians! Please pray for us!)

The Heritage Foundation says this, “This is a unique moment in American history—a tipping point that will determine whether we pull our nation back from the brink of financial collapse. Spending has risen to unprecedented levels—threatening limited government and economic freedom. The Heritage Foundation’s 2011 Federal Budget in Pictures paints a clear picture of how much the federal government is spending, how deep it is in debt, how massive entitlement programs are, and what we pay in taxes”.

These charts should be posted in every room in the White House and in the halls including the restrooms of Congress and in the office of every elected official in the land. Perhaps they will terrify them into action. More and more the Congress and the White House is admitting that there is indeed a problem. But the impasse and the issue is what to do about it. There is clearly a clash of worldviews and different visions of reality going on about how to solve this daunting problem.

If this is not reversed very soon, a tipping point will be reached and the United States will simply reach a point where there is no turning back from the abyss, without unthinkable cost in suffering. There are many in government and in business who believe that we are getting very close to that point. Frankly, I believe that it is this year that the tipping point will be reached.

You may ask, ”What does this have to do with the Kingdom of God?” It has a great deal to do with it! Just talk to those congregations throughout the USA that are having trouble meeting their budgets! Of course the Christian faith can grow and even flourish in the darkest of times as history repeatedly proves. But there are deeper, more ominous plans in the works besides congregations not being able to meet their mission budgets. I believe that crashing or debilitating the economy of the Western democracies through uncontrolled spending and unsustainable debt is just one step in Satan’s big plans to raise up strongholds of oppression and massive death to stall the advancement of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the Kingdom of God.

During the next two weeks there will be intensive negotiations in Washington on this issue before the August 2, 2011 deadline is reached when the debt limit must be raised to cover more government borrowing.

• We are called into the gap, to pray that there can be decisions made by Congress and the White House that will reverse this trend of unsustainable debt and will at the same time insure economic prosperity.
• Pray that any deceptions or strongholds of Satan that are blocking a solution will be removed. We need to ask the Holy Spirit to reveal these to us and then with authority in the name of Jesus, pray for their removal.

For myself, this last week I have had a strange series of dreams about President Obama, that has led me to believe that the Holy Spirit is calling me to intercede for him.
