The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender. Proverbs 22:7 (TNIV)
I am deeply distressed by what I read in The Wall Street Journal about the budget proposed by the Obama Administration and I believe that it would be a disaster for our country if this is passed.
Regardless of your political party or what nation is your home, the national debt being incurred by the Governments of US and UK, as well as Canada is violating fundamental spiritual and economic principles. We need to pray!
Over the past few weeks I have spent many sleepless nights called into intercession for our government and the decisions that they are making at this time.
Where is the money coming from for the Obama budget that if enacted will put the USA into trillion’s of debt? What I read tells me that it is mostly from Saudi Arabia and China! With Russia and Japan following! The UK is just as bad off in proportion to the size of the economy.

When I see charts like the one to the left, I am frightened. I think we all need to pay attention to history and what happens to nations that take the course that we are currently proposing. History is full of examples of what happens when nations take this very same course of action.
“…the borrower is slave to the lender!” What we are doing is enslaving children and their children.
This whole situation has profound economic and political consequences, but it also has implications for the Church of Jesus Christ.
The economic and political stability that we have enjoyed in the west has allowed us to participate and even be at the fore front of of advancing the Gospel of Jesus Christ around the world.
I know the gospel advances by the power of the Holy Spirit and not because of the economy, but the people who take the gospel to the world, and who build the means to do so, need material resources to do so. St. Paul’s ability to take the gospel to the then known world was greatly enhanced because of the system of the Roman roads, commerce and political stability. The great missionary thrust of the 18th century corresponded to and in part was made possible by the trade and economic vitality of the British Empire. Now that South Korea has arisen as one of the most prosperous nations in the world, God is using that small country as a sending base for thousand of missionaries. There is a relationship between fulfilling the great commission and having the financial resources to do so.
I invite you to join with me in urgent prayer that will shape the future. We need to pray that our base of freedom and economic vitality will not be destroyed by massive irresponsible debt caused by out of control government spending. Prayer is crucial at this time not only to preserve our economy, but also to preserve the role of the UK, USA and Canada in the work of Kingdom Advancement for future generations.
Pray that those in leadership in the Capitals of the Western world will be awakened and make the hard leadership choices to stop enslaving us to others.
