Dear Friends of Discerning the Times,
I would like to extend to each of you an invitation to participate in a special event designed to equip you for the work of Discerning the Times, “Father,Thy Kingdom Come!,” which takes place at the Community of the Cross, November 13-17, 2013.
Our space at the Community of the Cross is very limited, so I am extending this invitation to you first.
Recently the Lord called Doug McMurry and me to start working together to pray for waves of the Holy Spirit and to learn better how to cooperate with the Holy Spirit in overcoming demonic strongholds that block the advance of the Gospel.
We are also facing major crises in the world—we believe the Father is mobilizing, equipping and deploying intercessors.
Because you have been led to join Discerning the Times, I believe the Holy Spirit may very well be calling you to this equipping opportunity. There will be a time of teaching, but mostly we will do the work of Holy Spirit-led intercession. If you cannot be there in person, you can participate meaningfully before and after with your prayers.
- Pray for the Holy Spirit’s protection as we gather on the front-lines of spiritual battle.
- Ask the Father to provide all of the financial resources we will need to host this intensive prayer event.
May the Holy Spirit lead brothers and sisters to contribute their various gifts to the Body of Christ gathered at the Community of the Cross to help advance the Gospel of Jesus and to thwart all impediments to that end by defeating demonic strongholds!
The information about the event is listed below. Please pray about this! If you need any help in discerning whether you should take part, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thanks in Christ,
Father, Thy Kingdom Come!
Equipping For Intercession and Spiritual Warfare at the Community of the Cross
Nov. 13-17, 2013
A video of Brad Long briefly describing the event and extending to you the invitation to attend.
As you are exploring your role in the work of prayer, please watch the short video below of Dr. Brad Long discussing the different types of prayer you may be called to.
Purpose of the Event
We are offering this course at the leading of the Holy Spirit who is building up an army of intercessors to cooperate with Jesus Christ in power and authority.
- To petition our Father to send waves of the Holy Spirit to advance the Gospel of Jesus Christ
- In Jesus’ name and in the power of the Holy Spirit to engage and dismantle demonic strongholds Satan is building to block the advancement of the Kingdom of God.
The Teaching Team
Doug McMurry and Brad Long form the primary teaching team. They have been engaged in intercession for advancement of the Kingdom of God for many years, each with different gifts and perspectives.
The Rev. Doug McMurry
Intercessor, Author, Historian of Revival
The Rev. Doug McMurry was part of the original team that planned and launched the PRMI Dunamis Project in 1991. He has extensive experience in the work of intercessory prayer and spiritual warfare ministry. He led PRMI’s prayer vigil at the PC (USA) General Assemblies from 1993 to 2005. He was instrumental in mobilizing prayer across racial barriers among many congregations in Richmond, VA—the Civil War capital of the Confederacy—in order to defeat demonic strongholds of racism, slavery and murder.
The Rev. Dr. Brad Long
Executive Director of Presbyterian-Reformed Ministries International
Dr. Long founded the PRMI Dunamis Project in 1991 and did most of the writing of the manuals. He was joined in this project by other co- authors including Doug McMurry. He also co-authored a number of books with Doug on the work of prayer and the Holy Spirit. Brad was a missionary in Taiwan and brings to the work of prayer and spiritual warfare the passion to see the Gospel of Jesus Christ reach to the ends of the earth. He has a special calling and anointing for the Chinese world.
Doug McMurry and Brad Long will lead this course which focuses on praying for the advancement of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and defeating the works of the devil. Content will be based on Doug’s, “Glory through Time” series tracing God’s work of sending waves of the Holy Spirit through history, and Brad’s work of understanding and overcoming demonic strongholds.
They will be joined by others providing prayer covering, Bible study, worship, and firsthand reports from the waves of the Holy Spirit.
The time together at the Community of the Cross will consist of teaching and the practical work of prayer and engagement as led by the Holy Spirit.
Note: We will be videotaping this event for future equipping.
The Teaching and Prayer Engagement in Three Movements
Movement # 1 : Discerning and praying for waves of the Holy Spirit to advance the Kingdom of God
Throughout history the Holy Spirit has moved in waves to advance the Kingdom. Beginning with the book of Acts, we will focus on all the great moves of the Holy Spirit in history.
Movement # 2 : How Jesus works through us to remove demonic strongholds to destroy the works of the Devil
The Devil exists to build demonic strongholds. We will look at how to engage these demonic powers. Front and center is the case study of praying against radical Islam.
Movement # 3 : Praying “Father, Thy Kingdom Come!” as the Holy Spirit directs
We will discern and pray for the present waves of the Holy Spirit by welcoming Jesus Christ to work through us to overcome demonic strongholds that are impeding these moves of the Holy Spirit.
At this five day event we will provide just enough teaching to prepare us for the work of prayer.
Doing the work of prayer will provide the context for the Holy Spirit to teach us these principles of intercession and spiritual warfare. Our work of intercession and engagement with strongholds will be followed by a debriefing, an After Action Review, in order to deepen our learning.
Which waves of the Holy Spirit into which we are called to go deeply in prayer and which strongholds we may be called to engage will depend entirely on the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
It is our intention and commitment that this work be balanced and at the direction and authority of our commander in chief, Jesus Christ, through the direction and empowerment of the Holy Spirit and under the sovereign protection and love of the Father.
